Christmas Comes To Hurstleigh

At Hurstleigh staff and residents embrace the festive season with decorations and events throughout December. The communal areas are dressed in festive regalia. We hold the annual Hurstleigh Carol Concert organised by the Hurstleigh Committee. And of course no Yule celebration is complete without the full Christmas Lunch, to which all residents are invited. Art at the Heart of Hurstleigh

Hurstleigh regularly holds drawing classes for its residents and in October of 2023 we were proud to present our first exhibition showcasing some of their works. All residents are welcome to pick up a pencil and join the class. It's a great way to socialise, learn new skills or hone already existing talents. We would have loved to have included photos of the artists themselves, but they would rather let their work speak for itself so please click on the link to view our gallery.

Who cares about the rain when we can make our own sunshine with the annual Hurstleigh Strawberry Tea Party!

The weather may have been against us, but that didn't stop Hurstleigh residents, friends, staff and committee members coming together for the annual Strawberry Tea Party.  Sandwiches, cakes, Pimm's and smiles were aplenty as tales were told, memories shared and friendships forged.  See photos of the event in our gallery.

Hurstleigh - Fit for a King!

Hurstleigh residents, many of whom can still remember not only Queen Elizabeth II but also George VI's coronation, came together to salute our new monarch with a selection tea, cakes and sandwiches. See photos of the event in our gallery.

Ready for Christmas at Hurstleigh

We have had a merry Christmas at Hurstleigh, have decorated the tree and we had a well attended lunch. During the recent lockdown when things were quiet at Hurstleigh we took advantage of the time and re-roofed part of the buildings. The roof will be strong enough for Santa to park his sleigh for many years.

Summer and strawberry tea

Its winter now, but we are looking forward to summer when we have a strawberry tea gathering in the garden with residents of Hurstleigh and invite residents from Chorleywood.

Peggy's Path

To help residents enjoy our large garden we raised funds in our 50th anniversary year to install a path around the garden.  The walk is named Peggy's Path after Peggy Crockett who inspired the idea and was Chair of the Committee for many years.

And there was cake!

As well as having a lovely path so we can walk dry shod around the garden we had an opening ceremony with delicious cake decorated to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and the flowers of the garden.

Hurstleigh entertains

As part of our 50th celebrations we had a Gala Night at Chorleywood Memorial Hall, the event was a tremendous success with an audience of 140, a hectic time at the bar and tasty food catered by West Herts College.  The funds raised on the night were a great contribution to the construction of Peggy's Path.
