Chorleywood and District Homes for the Elderly – fundraising activities 2016
A series of events have been taking place over recent months to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Hurstleigh in 1966, in order to raise funds to construct a path around the perimeter of the garden at Hurstleigh. The project has been named Peggy’s Path, to acknowledge Peggy Crockett who inspired the idea and who was Chairman of the Committee for many years. Details of some of these events are mentioned below.
The final event to celebrate our 50th birthday was the Gala Night, held in the Chorleywood Memorial Hall on 8 October 2016. The event was attended by 140 people, and was a tremendous success. The bar was hectic, the catering by West Herts College was of a very high standard, and the entertainment was excellent. Funds raised on the evening have taken us a long way towards the amount required to start work on Peggy’s Path.
We held a very successful Bridge Drive on 28 September 2016. We had 44 bridge players, and homemade sandwiches and cakes were served for lunch. The winners at each bridge table went home with a prize and the lucky raffle ticket winners each received an excellent prize.
Chorleywood Magazine's first Scarecrow Trail took place over the weekend of 23rd - 25th September. Families, pubs, shops, schools. churches, groups and business in Chorleywood and Chenies took part and Hurstleigh was fortunate to be nominated as the recipient of all of the profits raised by the event, to help towards the fund for Peggy’s Path.
The annual Strawberry Tea at Hurstleigh was held on 16 July 2016. The weather was kind, and the event was as always very well attended by residents and supporters of Hurstleigh.
An Evening of Cool Jazz was held in Christ Church on 16 April 2016 which launched our Fundraising for Peggy’s path - Music was by the Infinite Jazz Ensemble featuring Donna Jones & with Special Guest …..our very own John Donegan.
